The ADAM Questionnaire

Answer each question based on how you’ve felt recently.

1Do you have a decrease in libido (sex drive)?

2Do you have a lack of energy?

3Do you have a decrease in strength and/or endurance?

4Have you lost height?

5Have you noticed a decreased “enjoyment of life”?

6Are you sad and/or grumpy?

7Are your erections less strong?

8Have you noticed a recent deterioration in your ability to play sports?

9Are you falling asleep after dinner?

10Has there been a recent deterioration in your work performance?

For educational purposes only. The ADAM questionnaire is a screening tool and does not diagnose low testosterone or any other condition. Always review your results with your Provider.

What Is the ADAM Questionnaire?

The ADAM (Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male) questionnaire is one of the most widely used screening tools for symptoms of low testosterone. Developed at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, it asks 10 simple yes-or-no questions about sex drive, energy, mood, strength, and erections.

How It’s Scored

Your screen is considered positive if you answer yes to question 1 (decreased sex drive) or question 7 (less strong erections), or if you answer yes to any three of the other questions.

What Your Result Means

The ADAM questionnaire is designed to catch as many men with possible low testosterone as possible, so it’s very sensitive. That also means many men who screen positive turn out to have normal testosterone, because these same symptoms can come from poor sleep, stress, depression, excess body fat, medications, and other conditions.

A positive screen is a reason to get evaluated, not a diagnosis. Low testosterone is confirmed with your symptoms, a physical exam, and properly timed lab work.

FAQ

ADAM Questionnaire Questions.

Is the ADAM questionnaire accurate?

It’s a good first step. The ADAM questionnaire is highly sensitive, meaning it catches most men who may have low testosterone, but it isn’t specific, so many men who screen positive have normal levels. Lab testing and a clinical evaluation are needed to know for sure.

Can low testosterone cause these symptoms?

Yes. Low testosterone can cause low sex drive, weaker erections, fatigue, low mood, and loss of strength. But so can many other conditions, which is why a full evaluation matters.
